DIY Sharpie Mugs

006

I have been pinning like crazy on Pinterest over the last few weeks.  It probably didn’t help that I had 11 days off of work from Christmas to New Years but that staycation was bliss.  Mr. C. was off of work too and we got to spend a lot of time together and worked on some projects we wanted to squeeze in before the new year.  Anyways, where was I?  Ah yes, I have gone on a pinning streak lately and I finally realized if I’m going to pin this much stuff I might as well start making things.

Oh yes friends. That means the “Create” side of Read, Eat, Create is FINALLY coming out! I’m excited about all my DIY posts I’m going to share with you (and you should be too)! First up is this fun and easy project. I thought it was such a cute idea for a Christmas gift that I had to make it!

Here’s what you need: A porcelain mug that you want to permanently change, a sharpie of any color. You can get the mugs really cheap too if you don’t want to spend a lot of money (I got mine at Target for $3 a piece but you can buy them at the dollar store too). Just draw any kind of design on your mug with a sharpie and bake it in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Allow them to completely cool before you wash and use them.

After they cooled, I washed them by hand and scrubbed on them. The design stayed put and there were no scratches or fading at all! I don’t have a dishwasher so I couldn’t test it that way but I would recommend hand washing only because of the possibility of ruining the design with a dishwasher. You can always fix it though if it does start to fade or scratch!

Hope you have fun with this little project this weekend! Happy Friday loves!
